“I’ll take you way out there, and bring you back.” -JB

I’m a native New Yorker and licensed outdoor guide who has spent decades exploring the wildest parts of the Empire State discovering the best places to fish, hike and camp in all 4-seasons.  Let me share the natural wonders I’ve found with you—all within just hours of New York City.

Fishing is my first love. I first explored the outdoors in Maine.  That’s where I caught my first fish when I was 7.

I caught my first trout on a fly on the Beaver Kill when I was 11. It was a rainbow. The fly was a dry fly, a light Cahill. I grew up fly fishing in the Catskills and Adirondacks.

I’ve hiked, camped and climbed too.  From the beginning of my outdoor life,  I enjoyed being outside in winter as much as any other season.  One of my first winter excursions involved fording a stream. My shelter was cheap plastic painter’s drop cloth. I was 14.

I picked up an ice axe, strapped crampons on my boots and went ice climbing for the first time a couple years later.

I’ve caught a lot of fish and climbed a lot of mountains since. I’ve fished every major trout stream and hiked across every mountain range, big and small, from New York to Maine.

I spent the summer of 2022 exploring New Hampshire and Maine, catching wild brook trout and landlocked Atlantic salmon.

Now I’ve established New York Wild to share the wonderous places I’ve found, pass on my passion for wilderness and my 4-season outdoor knowledge.  Let’s craft a wild adventure you’ll always treasure. -JB
